Strategic Data Management

This micro-credential is ideal for mid to late-career ICT professionals seeking to advance their careers or future-proof their skillsets.

It is recommended that learners commencing this micro-credential have:

• An undergraduate degree in any discipline plus two years of experience in IT-related work

Or

• At least five years of experience in IT-related work.

You are encouraged to complete the following micro-credential before undertaking this one, but this is not a prerequisite:

• Strategic Data in Organisations.

This micro-credential is designed in close consultation with industry and leverages best practices, especially regarding information systems strategy and disruptive technologies. Learning tasks have been designed to go beyond theory and enable you to apply your newfound practical skills and assessment task outcomes to your professional context.

By the end of this course, you'll have a better understanding of how organisations should manage data. You'll be able to:

• Discuss and reflect upon the intricacies of sourcing and preparing data for analytics
• Explain the importance of data quality for analytics in organisations
• Analyse issues that organisations face when sourcing data for analytics initiatives.

This course runs over four weeks, including two weeks of learning and two weeks for assessment.

Your total time commitment is approximately 42 hours, which includes:

• 8 hours guided online learning
• 13 hours self-guided study
• 21 hours assessment tasks.

Assessment:

• Data strategy development: develop a data strategy for an organisation (real or imagined) that briefs staff in the progressive use of the organisation’s data for analytics (100%).

Once you've successfully completed this course, you will be awarded your Strategic Data Management micro-credential. This digital certificate will warrant the achievement of knowledge, skills and capabilities outlined in the learning outcomes. It may also include artefacts (such as videos and written material) related to both experiential and work-integrated learning, including translatable assessment that is practical to your professional life. You can also share your micro-credential digitally and via social media by adding it to your platforms, such as LinkedIn. See example certificate.

Strategic Data Management can be taken as a stand-alone course, or complemented with any other micro-credential in the Leveraging Organisational Data series to deepen your knowledge and skills.

It offers a pathway, otherwise known as advanced standing, into the Master of Information Sytems. To use it this way, you need to complete all four micro-credentials in the Leveraging Organisational Data series, then apply for credit towards the master's.
