Overview
Internships and Vocational Placements
Vocational Placements, also known as Work Integrated Learning (WIL) or Experiential Learning, are a valuable way for students to get hands-on experience in industry while studying.
The MSD Vocational Placement subject enables eligible students to undertake an unpaid, short term placement with a host organisation or industry that is relevant to the student’s area of study. Students are allocated an academic supervisor and a host supervisor prior to starting the placement. These two roles provide students an important source of support throughout the placement and the ensuing report is submitted for academic credit.
Our Master of Landscape Architecture student Olivia Block was recently involved in the SMEC Summer Internship. Our Master of Landscape Architecture alum Momoka Kawauchi completed the internship in 2018 and is now an employee with SMEC.

Jenny Tin
"The studio subject encouraged me to reimagine Melbourne's civic place, Federation Square, with a stronger connection to the Birrarung. This emphasised the importance of contextual understanding and respect for the systemic relationships within a site."
